Set It Right

Most of what we write is about the ownership of other people’s businesses, so an error can cost someone something. We would rather be told early.

Telling us

Write to the desk. Please include the page address, the statement you dispute and, where possible, a document showing the correct version. Firms and individuals who are named in a report are welcome to write in the same way and to ask for a reply to be considered for publication.

What happens next

The site’s editorial team reads each report. We do not promise a reply time. Where the report is right, we change the text and say what changed.

How a change is shown

  • A wrong name, sum, share, date or claim: the text is fixed and the item carries a line reading "Corrected" with the date and what was wrong.
  • A sentence that was accurate but easy to misread: we reword it and add a short "Clarified" line.
  • A figure that has moved on: we update it together with its "as of" date, or flag the item as out of date.
  • A typo or formatting slip that leaves every fact and the meaning as they were: fixed without a note. A change to a fact is noted.

On profiles of consolidators the same rule applies: changes are marked in the profile itself with the date and what changed.

What we will not do

A fact is not changed after publication without a note (only a typo or formatting slip that leaves every fact as it was is fixed silently), and a report is not pulled to bury an error. We would take something down only for a legal requirement or a real risk to a person’s safety. Each request to remove or anonymise something is considered individually; no automatic removal is promised, and an error is corrected with a note.

We cannot correct something because a party would prefer it unsaid. If a disclosed fact is accurate, it stays.

Responsibility for corrections sits with Partnership Stake.
